The General Director of the Valencian Agency for Evaluation and Foresight (AVAP), Javier Oliver, attended the ENQA 2024 Members Forum, held in Hannover, Germany, from April 17 to 19. This event has been an essential platform for discussing advances and challenges in quality assurance in the European higher education space.
During the forum, topics related to quality assurance were addressed, including the importance of time as a forgotten dimension in quality assurance activities, as well as recent developments in the quality assurance of transnational education and micro-credentials. Participants also explored how quality policies are evolving within the European Higher Education Area and the European Union, looking ahead to the next Bologna Process Ministerial Conference. The event offered plenary sessions and discussion groups where ideas and best practices were exchanged. One of the central topics was “Time: The Forgotten Dimension of Quality Assurance,” based on a recent study that highlights how greater reflection on the concept of time could enhance the effectiveness of internal and external quality assurance activities.
Additionally, sessions on the quality assurance of transnational education were presented, where the need to ensure that education offered in recipient countries maintains the same quality standards as those of the home campuses was emphasized. The role of quality assurance agencies in protecting students’ interests and the importance of inter-agency cooperation to build trust in transnational education were also discussed.
Javier Oliver’s participation in this forum underscores AVAP’s ongoing commitment to improving educational quality. This event not only allowed AVAP to share its experiences and learn from others but also reaffirmed its role at the forefront of educational quality assurance internationally.
