On 2 December, the Director General of the Valencian Agency for Evaluation and Foresight (AVAP), Javier Oliver, took part in the 8th edition of the Dialogues on Social Responsibility at the University of Valencia (UV). The event, held in the Main Hall of the Rectorate building, focused on how sustainability can strengthen the university’s three core missions: teaching, research and knowledge transfer.
The session was opened by the Vice-Rector for Sustainability, Cooperation and Healthy Life at UV, Pilar Serra Añó, who underlined the importance of integrating sustainability across university life in a transversal way. This was followed by the central dialogue of the day, featuring contributions from Javier Oliver; Rosario Alonso, Director of the Concepción Arenal Chair on the 2030 Agenda and member of the coordination committee of the Network of Chairs; and María José Tudela, Head of the Research Management Service at the University of Valencia. The session was moderated by Núria García Cebriá.
During the debate, participants discussed how sustainability can act as a backbone for university policies, both in the training of students and in orienting research towards the challenges of the 2030 Agenda, as well as in the relationship between the university and its social, institutional and productive environment.
In this context, AVAP’s participation made it possible to highlight the role of evaluation and quality assurance as key tools for aligning the university’s missions with sustainability objectives and with the public policies of the Generalitat Valenciana.
AVAP’s presence at these Dialogues reinforces its commitment to promoting a culture of quality linked to social responsibility, incorporating social, environmental and good governance criteria into evaluation processes. It also helps to strengthen collaboration with the University of Valencia and with other stakeholders involved in the implementation of the 2030 Agenda, ensuring that teaching, research and knowledge transfer progress in line with the current challenges.
This eighth edition continues a cycle of reflection that, in previous years, has already addressed issues such as social mobilisation for sustainability among university students, consolidating the University of Valencia as a reference space for debating and sharing initiatives in university social responsibility. AVAP’s participation forms part of its commitment to continue supporting the Valencian university system in continuous improvement and in integrating sustainability as an essential component of quality.
