On Monday, 14 April, the Agència Valenciana d’Avaluació i Prospectiva (AVAP) took part in the institutional event marking the 525th anniversary of the University of Valencia (UV), one of the oldest, most emblematic, and forward-looking academic institutions in Spain.
The event was held in the Paraninfo of the University, a space full of historical symbolism, where tribute was paid to public, scientific, and educational institutions that have supported the university throughout its history, contributing to its consolidation as a benchmark for knowledge, culture, and social progress.
Recognition of quality as a driver of transformation
During the event, AVAP was honoured for its work in the evaluation and improvement of university quality, acknowledging its key role in promoting a more rigorous, transparent, and excellence-oriented higher education system. This recognition was shared with other prominent institutions such as the National Agency for Quality Assessment and Accreditation (ANECA) and the State Research Agency, highlighting the importance of institutional collaboration in strengthening the university system as a whole.
AVAP’s track record in quality, accreditation, and evaluation has helped to consolidate processes that support the continuous improvement of academic programmes, teaching, and university management. This recognition serves as motivation to continue advancing in this direction, always from a collaborative perspective with Valencian universities and in line with European standards.
A university committed to the present and future
The Rector of the University of Valencia, M.ª Vicenta Mestre Escrivá, presided over the event and stressed the importance of this anniversary as an opportunity to reflect on the institution’s evolution and its role in contemporary society. In her words, the UV represents a “living reflection of the history, transformation, and social commitment of Valencia,” positioning itself as a modern university, open to the world, rooted in its territory, and a firm advocate of values such as equality, democracy, sustainability, and the promotion of knowledge.
In this context, collaboration with institutions such as AVAP is seen as essential to continue moving towards a more equitable, innovative, and high-quality education system—one aligned with the needs of society and global challenges.
AVAP deeply appreciates this recognition, which reinforces its public service vocation and its commitment to improving the Valencian university system. Participation in this event has also served as an opportunity to reaffirm its dedication to working in close coordination with universities, public administrations, and national and international bodies, with the aim of building a solid, inclusive, and future-oriented higher education system.
