The Escola d’Art i Superior de Disseny de València (EASD València) officially opened the 2025–2026 academic year with a ceremony that coincided with the celebration of its 175th anniversary, reaffirming its role as one of the leading institutions in design, art, and creativity education in the Valencian Community.
The event, held on Tuesday, 14 October, at the Vivers campus, was attended by Javier Oliver Villarroya, Director General of the Agència Valenciana d’Avaluació i Prospectiva (AVAP), together with prominent figures from the educational, cultural, and artistic sectors.
Among them were Maribel Curiel, Director of EASD València; Montserrat Grañeras Pastrana, Director of the Department of Arts Education at the Ministry of Education, who spoke during the event highlighting the importance of arts education and the role of higher design schools in shaping new creative professionals; Francisca Blanch Piqueras, Director of the Institut Superior d’Ensenyances Artístiques de la Comunitat Valenciana (ISEACV); Salvador Oliver Castellano, President of the Valencian Community School Council; and José Luis Moreno Maicas, Deputy Councillor for Cultural Action, Heritage, and Cultural Resources at the City Council of València, among other institutional representatives.
During the ceremony, the commemorative image for the 175th anniversary was presented, along with several activities showcasing the school’s trajectory and vitality: a conversation with renowned photographers Bleda and Rosa, National Photography Award winners (2008) and alumni of the school, together with Lucía Mejías and Oto Sabater, students of the Degree in Photography and Audiovisual Creation; the interactive installation El món de les idees (The World of Ideas) by Andrea Méndez, graduate of the Master’s in Interactive Design; and the exhibition Talents Latents, featuring a selection of the best works by students in photography, audiovisual creation, and jewellery.
The day concluded with a live performance by DJ TRS (Teresa Giménez), a student of the Degree in Graphic Design, and a shared aperitif with the educational and professional design community of València.
From AVAP, we celebrate the outstanding trajectory of EASD València and its commitment to artistic education, innovation, and excellence. This 175th anniversary not only commemorates its history but also looks towards the future, reaffirming the school as a benchmark in creativity, experimentation, and design culture within the Valencian Community.
