In an important step forward for the assurance of educational quality in the Valencian Community, the Valencian Agency for Evaluation and Foresight (AVAP) begins to implement the procedure for the verification and modification of higher education degrees as of this April. This achievement marks a milestone in the history of AVAP, which has managed to increase its competences by being registered in the Register of Quality Assurance Agencies in the European Higher Education Area (EQAR). This allows it to exert a direct influence on the continuous improvement of the quality of official university degrees in the region.
This recognition is the result of a meticulous evaluation process that confirms AVAP’s alignment with the Standards and Guidelines for Quality Assurance in the European Higher Education Area (ESG). The regulatory framework, particularly Royal Decree 822/2021, establishes that official university degrees must undergo external evaluation procedures to ensure their quality, highlighting the verification of curricula and the possibility of modifying these degrees once verified, thus ensuring their relevance and continuous updating.
Verification is an essential process that assesses whether the curricula of recognised degree programmes comply with the guidelines and conditions established by the European Higher Education Area (EHEA).
Likewise, the modification of degrees allows universities to make adjustments to improve and update official study programmes, thus responding to the changing needs of the educational and professional environment. These modifications may be of a non-substantial nature, such as minor adjustments resulting from quality monitoring, or substantial, involving significant changes to the structure and objectives of the degree programmes.
AVAP’s implementation of these competences represents a firm commitment to educational excellence, ensuring that higher education degrees in the Valencian Community meet the highest quality standards. This development not only benefits the academic and student community, but also contributes to the socio-economic development of the region, preparing future professionals with an education that responds to global challenges and the demands of the labour market.
