AVAP has signed up to join CoARA, the International Coalition for the Advancement of Research Assessment.
More than 300 organizations are members of the coalition, which seeks a qualitative evaluation of research. In other words, the agreement seeks a rethinking of the criteria for evaluating the merits of university professors, especially those of research, towards more qualitative ones.
CoARA goes beyond a declaration of intent and commits the institutions to advance evaluation practices during the period 2022-2027. The central points of this commitment are the promotion of the use of qualitative indicators accompanied by a responsible use of quantitative ones, the recognition of the diversity of research contributions and the abandonment of the inappropriate use of institutional metrics and rankings.
The institutions signing the CoARA agreement commit to allocate resources to reform the evaluation of their institution; to review and develop criteria, tools and processes for the evaluation of their scientific activity, and to raise awareness and train their staff on this reform.
